Fostering a new type of garden, this garden is created on an occasion of the cultural event at the Kwasan Observatory, Kyoto University. It poetically reflects their research on the Sun – the basic structure of this garden is based on the mechanism of the Sun’s magnetic fields such as solar coronal loops. It allows visitors to move across the arches while appreciating the colors of the solar spectrum emerging through the butterfly-shaped spectral filters. This motif is dedicated to the butterfly diagrams (a diagram of which the latitudes of sunspots are plotted) that the observatory has been making over the years for educational purposes.
